"Having controlled senses and his mind and fixing his consciousness upon Me one must meditate on Me. For he, whose senses are mastered, is known to have a stable mind."

(Chap 2 -verse 61)

"Living in seclusion all by himself, the yogi who has controlled his mind and body, and is free from desires and void of possessions, should constantly engage his mind in meditation."

(Chap 6 -verse 10)

"Having firmly placed his seat in a spot which is free from dirt and other imputiries with the sacred Kusa grass, a deerskin and a cloth spread thereon one below other (Kusa below, deerskin in the middle and clothe uppermost), neither very high nor low."

(Chap 6 -verse 11)

"And occupying that seat, concentrating the mind and controlling functions of the mind and senses, he should practise the yoga for self-purification."

(Chap 6 -verse 12)

"Holding the trunk, head and neck straight and steady, remaining firm, fixing the gaze on the tip of his nose, without looking in other directions."

(Chap 6 -verse 13)

"Shutting out all thoughts of external enjoyments, with the gaze fixed on all the space between eye-brows. having regulated Prana (outgoing breath) and Apana(incoming breath), flowing within nostrils, he who has brought senses, mind and intellect under his control - such a contemplative soul intent on liberation and free from desire, fear and anger is ever liberated."

(Chap 5 -verse 27,28)

"Firm in the vow of complete chastity and fearlessness, keeping himself perfectly calm and with the mind held in restraint and fixed on Me, the vigilant Yogi should sit absorbed in Me."

(Chap 6 -verse 14)

"The state, in which, curbed through the practice of Yoga, the mind becomes still, and in which, realizing God through subtle reason (purified by meditation on God) the soul rejoices only in God."

(Chap 6 -verse 20)

He whose mind remains unattached to sense objects, derives through meditation the SATTVIKA joy which dwells in the mind; then that Yogi, having completely identified himself through meditation with Brahma, enjoys eternal Bliss."

(Chap 5 -verse 21)

"Endowed with untarnished intellect, and partaking of light, SATTVIKA and regulated diet, living in a lonely and unidentified place, having rejected sound and other objects of senses, controlled the mind, speech and body by restraining the mind and senses through firmness of SATTVIKA type, taking resolute stand on dispassion, after having completely got rid of attraction, aversion and remaining ever devoted to the Yoga of meditation, having given up egoism, violence, arrogance, lust, anger, luxuries, and having tranquility in heart - such a man becomes qualified for oneness with Brahma, who is Truth, Consciousness and Bliss. "

(Chap 18 -verse 51, 52, 53)

"Thus, constantly applying your mind to Me, the Yogi if disciplined mind attains the everlasting peace, consisting of supreme bliss, which abides in Me."

(Chap 6 -verse 15)

"As a light does not flicker in a windless place, such is stated to be the picture of the disciplined mind of the Yogi practising meditation on God."

(Chap 6 -verse 19)

"Having known Me in reality as the enjoyer of all sacrifices and austerities, the Supreme Lord of all worlds, and the disinterested friend of all beings, My devotee attains peace."

(Chap 5 -verse 29)

"The seers whose sins have been wiped out, whose doubts have been dispelled by knowledge, whose disciplined mind is firmly established in God and who are actively engaged in the service of all beings, attain Me, who is all peace."

(Chap 5 -verse 25)



How does a Sankhyayogi behave, meditate and live life? As this question is answered it will be clear to any reader why it is the most difficult way of leading life.

"He, whose intellect is unattached everywhere, whose thirst for enjoyment has altogether disappeared and who has subdued his mind, reaches through sankhyayoga ( the path of Knowledge) the consummation of actionlessness."
(Chap 18 -verse 49)

"The state, in which, curbed through the practice of Yoga, the mind becomes still, and in which, realizing God through subtle reason (purified by meditation on God) the soul rejoices only in God."

(Chap 6 -verse 20)

"A person who is not disturbed by the incessant flow of desires - that enter like rivers into the ocean, which is ever being filled, but is always still - can alone achieve peace, and not the man who strives to satisfy such desires."

(Chap 2 -verse 70)



"With the attainment of placidity of mind, all his sorrows come to an end and the intellect of such a person of tranquil mind soon withdrawing itself from all sides, becomes firmly established in God."

(Chap 2 -verse 65)

"That which is night to all beings, in that state of Divine Knowledge and supreme Bliss, the God realized Yogi keeps awake, and that (ever changing transient worldly happiness) in which all beings keep awake is night to the seer(sankhyayogi)."

(Chap 2 -verse 69)



The Sankhyayogi, however, who knows the reality of things, must believe, even though seeing, hearing, touching, smelling or eating or drinking, walking, sleeping, breathing, speaking, answering the calls of nature, grasping, opening and closing of the eyes - that he does nothing, holding that it is the senses that moving among their objects."

(Chap 5 -verse 8,9)

"The self-controlled Sankyayogi, doing nothing himself and getting nothing done by others, rests happily in God, the embodiment of Truth, Knowledge, and Bliss, mentally relegating all actions to the mansion of nine gates (the body with nine openings)."

(Chap 5 -verse 13)

"Arjuna, such is the state of the God realized soul; having reached this state, he overcomes delusion. And established in this state, even at the last moment, he attains Brahmic bliss."

(Chap 2 -verse 72)

"Established in identity with Brahma (who is Truth, Consciousness , and Bliss solidified), and cheerful in mind; the sankhyayogi no longer grieves nor craves for anything. He is same to all beings and in such a state he attains pure devotional service onto Me."

(Chap 18 -verse 54)

"The wise look with the same eye on Brahman, endowed with learning and culture, a cow, am elephant, dog, and a pariah too."

(Chap 5 -verse 18)


"He looks upon well-wishers and neutrals as well as mediators, friends and foes, relatives and objects of hatred, virtuous, and the sinful with the same eye, stands supreme."

(Chap 6 -verse 9)

"The state, in which, curbed through the practice of Yoga, the mind becomes still, and in which, realizing God through subtle reason (purified by meditation on God) the soul rejoices only in God."

(Chap 6 -verse 20)

"The yogi whose mind is full of jnana(knowedge of nirguna brahma) and vijnana(knowledge of manifest divinity), who is unmoved under all circumstances, whose senses are completely mastered, an to whom earth, stone, gold are all alike, is spoken of as God-realized Soul."

(Chap 6 -verse 8)
