What makes one to go away from God? What drives someone to separate himself/herself from divinity? Krishna answers in various chapters:
"Hardly one among thousands of men strive to realize Me. of those striving Yogis, again, someone rarely (devoting himself exclusively to Me) knows Me in reality."(Chap 7 -verse 3)
But why does this happen? We had come cross some important verses earlier when we discussed why it is impossible to go beyond the 3 Gunas:
"Arjuna, I know all beings, past as well as present, even those who are not yet arrived; but none who is devoid of faith and reverence knows Me."(Chap 7 -verse 26)
"The whole of this creation is deluded by these objects evolved from the 3 Gunas - Satva, Rajas, Tamas and that is why world fails to recognize Me, standing apart from these and imperishable. For this wonderful Maya of Mine consisting of the 3 Gunas is extremely difficult to break through; those, however, who constantly adore Me alone are able to cross it."(Chap 7 -verses 13,14)
"Those whose wisdom has been carried away by Maya and who have embraced the demoniac nature, such foolish and vile men of evil deeds do not adore Me."
(Chap 7 -verse 15)
"The omnipresent God does not receive the virtue or sin of anyone. Knowledge is enveloped with ignorance. Knowledge is enveloped with ignorance. hence it is that beings are constantly falling a prey to delusion."(Chap 5 -verse 15)
"O Arjuna, through delusion in the shape of pairs of opposites such as pain and pleasure, born of desire and hatred - all living creatures in this world are falling prey to infatuation."(Chap 7 -verse 27)
"Veiled by My YogMaya (divine potency), I am not manifest to all. Hence, these ignorant folk fail to recognize Me, the unborn and imperishable as the one subject to birth and death."(Chap 7 -verse 25)
"Not knowing My unsurpassable and undecaying supreme nature, the ignorants believe Me as someone who has assumed a finite form through birth as an ordinary human being instead of accepting Me as the supreme spirit beyond the reach of mind and senses, tme embodiment of Truth, Knowledge and Bliss."(Chap 7 -verse 24)
"Fools, not knowing My supreme nature think low of Me - the overlord of the entire creation, when I descend in the human form. They do not know My transcendental nature."(Chap 9 -verse 11)
"Those who are thus bewildered are attracted by demoniac and atheistic views. In that deluded condition, their hopes for liberation, their fruitive activities, and their culture of knowledge are all defeated."(Chap 9 -verse 12)
"He who lacks discrimination, is devoid of faith, and is at the same time possessed by doubt is lost to the spiritual path. For the doubting soul there is neither this world nor the world beyond, nor even happiness."(Chap 4 -verse 40)
"On the other hand, those who are not deluded, the great souls, are under the protection of divine nature. They are fully engaged in devotional service because they know Me as the Supreme, original and inexhaustible."(Chap 9 -verse 13)
"Always chanting My glories, endeavoring with great determination, bowing down before Me, these great souls perpetually worship Me with devotion."(Chap 9 -verse 14)
"Those men of virtuous deeds whose sins have come to and end, being freed from delusion in the pair of opposites (born of attraction and repulsion), worship Me with a firm resolve in every way."(Chap 7 -verse 28)
